delete cookies but save important ones

feature request: "delete cookies but save important or useful ones" --

This would clear most all your browser cookies, but let you specify a list of sites whose cookies it wouldn't clear. I don't know how the interface should work with different browsers, but I suppose a first stab at it would be just one list for all browsers, which would make me happy. In that case, I guess it could be another tab next to the languages to preserve? I'll leave it to you though :)

THANK YOU for a GREAT TOOL ALREADY!

Thanks. I agree that white listing cookies is a good idea. What do you think about BleachBit making recommendations on cookies to white list for popular cookies like gmail.com? Do you think people would agree to anonymously submit their white lists online to share with others by clicking a button?

That sounds nice (recommended whitelist entries). I imagine some people would submit their lists. I would guess at least 5% of folks would. I think my personal white list was only between five and ten sites previously, using a tool like this on windows (I switched to linux.) I guess then one could download the merged popular list, and checkmark the ones you like to start your own list.

If you have the energy to code all that, more power to you! For a quicker first cut though, maybe just adding ones own sites manually is fine.

I'm really keen on the Keep List / Kill List interface style that is currently used by ccleaner.

Having the two lists side by side makes it easy to tell at a glance what is currently on the disk, and what is in your whitelist.

Moving items to or from the whitelist is easy.

Yes please add this after the recent changes in Ccleaner I need an alternative and found this one.. I liked it but I am not able to use it as it does not have a Cookie White List and I have too many sites in my white list that I am not able to use this software.

Thank you for the suggestion. It may take some time to get this implemented, especially with support for all the major web browsers.

In the interim, is it an option to use BleachBit to clean everything other than cookies?

If you do not mind me asking, what changes were made recently in CCleaner?

The entire UI went to a Metro Style UI. I hate Metro already but put that on a Windows 7 system and I want to dig out my eyes. I had to downgrade back down to version 4 and even with all the complaints there has been no feedback from the developers so I feel they are going the way of Malwarebytes and ignoring and not caring what people think of the new UI.

If it was not for the business edition of Malwarebytes I would not even use it anymore but since they have no upgraded that edition with a new engine I am beginning to feel it's useless to run it anymore and only run occasionally. I am about to move from it permanently and once Bleachbit has the cookie feature I do not see anything that Ccleaner has to keep me with it.

I'm old school and do not care for bright fancy graphics my Windows 7 has patched theme that keeps it looking like the original Windows 2000 classic windows with classicshell start menu. When I go to work on a clients system I want a tool that looks professional and not something that looks like something a kid designed. I have some clients I go work on there PC and I definitely will not update CCleaner when they call me out to work on there systems.

Ccleaner 5.x UI does not look like a professional tool anymore with all the contrasts and flat buttons.

Have you tried ClamWin? http://www.clamwin.com/ I moderator over there, too. It is a basic anti-virus with no metro or plans on making a metro style GUI/UI. Sorry for bring off topic. As for your original post, this is going to increase BleachBit's size anymore and the issue with BleachBit now is it keeps getting bigger and bigger. I hope Andrew can find a way to shrink BleachBit while still including all these useful features.

No will check that out for a Malwarebytes alternative. White listing is very important for my clients as they do not want to be logging into sites they use often every single time. So a white list for cookies is very important.

@molitar: If you have any questions about ClamWin you can register at the ClamWin forums and I will assist you anyway you need. My username is the same over there, as well. As for the intelligent cookie scan, you should file a bug over at BleachBit's launchpad so Andrew can tag this for a future release. You can do that here: https://launchpad.net/bleachbit Registration will direct you to Ubuntu one but that is nothing to worry about.

@Andrew: I believe he is talking about the intelligent cookie scan that CCleaner added in 4.0. They improved it in version 5.0 while adding a really bad GUI/UI to it. Maybe you can look into doing that in a future release.

I understand about the Metro changes. I remember for a while in Windows XP reverting back to the Windows 2000 theme (especially because it seemed faster).

On a related note, GTK+ is a cross-platform window toolkit BleachBit uses to present its graphic user interface, and Maël Lavault, a contributor, is helping update BleachBit from the old GTK+ version 2 to version 3. This update is necessary to stay up to date and to support new features, and the update will have some aesthetic changes. Soon I will post some more information, including screenshots. It may not be possible to please everyone, but I hope to consider the options and opinions.
