Go away from Sourceforge

I have actually suggested to Andrew to move away from Sourceforge via email. He said, it if did get worse, he would be willing to.

I would suggest for Andrew to set up a WordPress website. You can pretty create anything you want with WordPress. Plus, it is free and open-source. I do have a little experience with WordPress websites, when I was helping out PhishBlock (it's dead now).

Recently, ClamAV took their project off Sourceforge, too, so maybe BleachBit should do the same. Though, it is all up to Andrew, whatever he wants to decide to do.

Have you read the recent blog post Notice about hosting [BleachBit] on SourceForge? It addresses a few points: most BleachBit downloads are not hosted on SourceForge, the Windows binaries are digitally signed to prevent tampering, and SourceForge changed its practices.

Anyways, if Andrew chooses to remain on Sourceforge, then that is alright with me. I am with BleachBit, until the end.

More and more projects are going away from SourceForge, even most site filters are banning SourceForge as a danbgerous site.

There are other options, such as FOSSHUB.

tomofonic: What site filter? Any site that allows users to post content has the risk of bad content. For example, sometimes I have to delete spam from this forum.

I understand SourceForge recently has a bad reputation and am considering the suggestion of the other options. For example, recently I moved the BleachBit documentation to GitHub pages, but in the article I wrote about SourceForge they have stopped the installer modification that earned the bad reputation.

You have no idea if they will start it back up, though. They sneaked this in the first time, they will try it again.

Anyways, if you do, I recommend Codeplex over Fosshub because Fosshub is a place for ANY free software, where as, Codeplex is specifically for open-source.

Like I said, though, whatever BleachBit decides, I will be with them all the way.

g9805263: I tried uBlock Origin in Google Chrome and saw the error for www.sourceforge.net and bleachbit.sourceforge.net. The uBlock documentation clarifies, "Not all downloads on a site may be affected."

uBock's has links to support their reasons for supporting blocking SourceForge.net, but the evidence is either weak or outdated, so this warning is somewhere between a false positive and a hasty generalization.

In the "Hosting on SourceForge" article I mentioned I noted that SourceForge is now used just for web hosting. SourceForge is not used for hosting revision control anymore, nor is it BleachBit's primary download mirror.

That said, I recently purchased bleachbit.org and have already moved the the end-user documentation

By the way to users of products like uBlock and AdBlock: There are many nice things about blocking ads, but BleachBit is supported by ads and donations.

It's not that you should move away from SF because adBlockers block site, yuo should move away from SF for the same reason adBlockers block SF:

To pot it another way: wouldn't you be pissed off if *your* product would be shipped with adware in it, without your (ac)knowledge? Profits from those adware will not help BleachBit development, and will move users away from it, as in "What the hell this c**p installed in my pc??? Screw you bleachbit!"

BleachBit is no longer hosted on SourceForge

The site, so far, seems to be faster. You might want to include that your old login should still work on the new website, in that article. You only put in that the login requires HTTPS.
