Hi all,

I've posted in reddit but having slow progress there so coming to the source.

I ran BleachBit for the first time and since then whenever I try and install anything it never works.
The full reddit thread is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/82vwlm/i_just_installed...

Here are the key points:

When I try and install anything with apt install etc it fails.

sudo apt install nautilus-image-converter

It spits out this error:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package nautilus-image-converter

I've checked here and it's real: https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/nautilus-image-converter

My sources.list file contains:

Does anyone know what happened and what I need to do to correct the damage?

Thanks so much...

BleachBit version:
2.0
Your operating system:
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

BleachBit 2.0 has no direct interaction with APT or DEB packages except through the APT application itself. In other words, BleachBit calls the normal APT commands line anyone would, so I am not sure how running BleachBit is related to this error.

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS right now, so it get some testing.

Did you make sure to run "sudo apt-get update" after running BleachBit? This refreshes the package listing, so your machine knows what packages are out there. Otherwise, it will not have information that any package exists. (This assumes you used BleachBit to clean out the apt cache.)

Did you run any other sort of maintenance, clean up, or configuration?

Have you tried installing that missing package from here?

Your apt-cache stats looks off because mine has many more packages.

I installed BleachBit 2.0 from the official .deb on a clean Ubuntu 16.04. Then I ran BleachBit as administrator and enabled every cleaner.

After it finished, the standard "sudo apt-get install" gave me the "package not found" until I ran "sudo apt-get update." Then I could install packages are normal.

Looking at your apt-get update log, I see some errors. At least temporarily for troubleshooting, try to disable the non-standard repositories, and run "sudo apt-get update" again.

I noticed the same conversation here on askubuntu.com
