BleachBit Shredder ~ A couple of issues

Forums:

I am using BleachBit v1.10 with Windows 10 x64.

1) Every time I try to shred an Executable (.exe) file
by using the context menu option "Shred with BleachBit",
I cannot do it.

Instead of erasing the Executable (.exe) file, BleachBit tries to run (i.e. execute)
the respective file.

A second issue I'd like to address is the following:

2) Let's say I select Ten (10) different files to erase
by using the context menu option "Shred with BleachBit".
Then, I have to repeatedly click on the "Delete" button
of the *Delete Confirmation Window* asking me
"Are you sure you want to permanently delete these files?"
for Ten (10) times!!!

Wouldn't it be enough to do it just/only ONE time?

Hello 212eta. I jsut tested this on my system. I created 3 text files and then highlighted them all and shred with BleachBit. On my system, I was not only asked to delete 3 times, but it opened up BleachBit 3 times, as well.

Would you mind filing this at BleachBit's launchpad here: https://launchpad.net/bleachbit

#2 is already filed here.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bleachbit/+bug/1261252

The workaround is to open BleachBit, click File, and then click Shred.

#1 The executable issue sounds new. Would you please file that as a new bug in Launchpad?

Guys, just test what I described with different .exe files...

212eta: I filed your issue to review for the next release. Thank you for the report

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bleachbit/+bug/1547322

In the future feel free to file bug tickets there in Launchpad

I guess #2 isn't something fixable? It would be nice to be able to shred multiple files through the context menu with only 1 confirmation instead of getting confirmed with each file.

Just try to Shred different *.exe files...
Very often BleachBit tries to open them -before- erasing them.
BTW, I am on Windows 10 x64 and use BleachBit v1.10

I just tried this with about 16 different .exe files. I shredded some individually then I tried shredding them in pairs (like 3 at a time, 4 at a time, etc). I am unable to replicate your issue.

When does this usually happen? Does it happen more rarely or how often?

By the way, I renamed the title to that bug report on the launchpad to the proper issue now. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Are you on Windows 10 x64?
Anyway, it has happened several times...

I just tried this again with another batch of .exe files and still am unable to replicate this issue. Yes, I am on a Windows 10 64-bit running BleachBit 1.10.

I know this doesn't normally help most BleachBit issues, but can you try a complete uninstall of BleachBit and reinstall and try this again and see if it still happens?

On Windows 10 64-bit with BleachBit 1.10 I placed a file on my desktop called DeleteMe.exe and shredded it with BleachBit using the context menu. I did not see any problems.

Unless I can reproducible it, it is hard to fix it. Because this has not been reported before, it seems this may be an idiosyncrasy of one system. It could indicate a corruption in the Windows registry.

For now I suggest shredding these files inside BleachBit using the BleachBit file menu. In the future I will look into enabling drag and drop.

Drag and drop is implemented, and it will be in the next stable release (2.0). For now Windows users can test the latest development build. Please let me know how it goes.
