Beta 1.5.2

Forums:

-Verify BleachBit does not crash on startup
Working in windows 8.1
-Uninstall BleachBit. Then install BleachBit in silent mode twice using the command BleachBit-1.6-setup.exe /S
Worked fine, But I copy/pasted the command. (had to change it to BleachBit-1.5.2-setup.exe /S). 2nd time it completed the uninstall and reinstall with no problems.
-In the Control Panel under Add/Remove Programs, verify the application version (1.5.2) is shown.
Shows 1.5.2

for a bonus all of the above works in the Windows tech preview aswell.

only bug I noticed is it alerts of a new version being available "Upgrade to version 1.4"

Thank you for testing.

I updated the instructions to BleachBit-1.5.2-setup.exe /S

I fixed the update notification system, so it doesn't suggest any updates now, and I wrote a new test program to make sure that doesn't happen again.

I posted my test results here: http://bleachbit.sourceforge.net/forum/test-results-bleachbit-152 I did a little more through testing but pretty much the same results.

I had edited my original post but it wasn't showing, So Here's a little more testing:

with winapp2.ini enabled Store* gives this error.
"Traceback (most recent call last):
File "bleachbit\Worker.pyo", line 82, in execute
File "bleachbit\Command.pyo", line 74, in execute
File "bleachbit\FileUtilities.pyo", line 347, in getsize
error: (3, 'FindFirstFileW', 'The system cannot find the path specified.')"

Does is have something to do with those entries having characters like these? ∺ ∯

I am not getting that issue on my side, but you are right about the unique character codes that BleachBit does not detect for Winapp2, such as the ones you mentioned. I hope Andrew can add more character code detection for BleachBit, otherwise, a lot of entries are still being missed by BleachBit.

I don't think it is the characters because other files in the same folder have the same characters, but they are previewed and deleted OK. I found one file in the folder that is not deleted, and I think the problem is the long length.

I filed this as bug 1390950. (If you want, login to Launchpad and subscribe to get updates.)

Also, I added more tests with special characters to the automated tests

ROCKNROLLKID , If you think you see a different bug related to special characters (where the length including the directories is less than 260 characters), please report it.

bsodx2: See bug 1390950 for a fix of "The system cannot find the path specified" for files with long names in BleachBit 1.7.5. If possible, please discuss this bug in the bug ticket, especially as it no longer relates to BleachBit 1.5 beta.
