Skip UAC warnings

Forums:

I think it would be nice to add an option to skip UAC warnings, like CCleaner does. Some people like to use UAC, but in a program like BleachBit, it is unneeded to see UAC warnings, all the time.

Do you mean run without administrative privileges, or do you mean run with administrative privileges without the prompt?

I run mine with administrative privileges and I get UAC warnings after every operation I do. I think it would be nice for BleachBit to add an option to skip UAC warnings.

If I am not mistake, isn't BleachBit capable of without administrative privileges, already?

Right now you have two options

1. When you get the UAC prompt, decline. BleachBit will run without administrative privileges. This is a good way to test drive the differences without committing to it. Expect to see some "permission denied" cleaning some system entries

2. Edit the BleachBit shortcut and add --no-uac to the end after bleachbit.exe

I tried that and BleachBit would not load up at all. Here's how it looks: "C:\Program Files\BleachBit\bleachbit.exe" --no-uac I also tried it with one - and it wouldn't detect the command. Also tried it together (no space) and BleachBit said error.

What happens when you use the regular shortcut (no --no-auc) and you decline the AUC prompt? Does it load then?

I forgot to mention that I had compatibility mode "Run this program as an administrator" enabled, but when it is not checked the issue is still present. Here's what I did:

1. Run this program as an administrator compatibility mode is enabled and when I enter --no-uac in the shortcut, BleachBit does not load up at all.
2. Run this program as an administrator compatibility mode is enabled and when I click on No to the UAC warning when wanting to load up BleachBit, BleachBit will not load up at all.
3. Run this program as an administrator compatibility mode is disabled and when I click No to the UAC warning, BleachBit will load up successfully.
4. Run this program as an administrator compatibility mode is disabled and when I do the --no-uac BleachBit will not load up at all.

It seems the no uac setting is not working on both administrative and non-administrative modes.

Sorry, I forgot to mention an important detail. Please use --gui also like this
bleachbit.exe --gui --no-uac

BleachBit loads up successful now. Still getting a UAC warning on load up though. I suppose nothing can be done about that?

I just tried it on Windows 7, and it works unless I right click on the BleachBit shortcut, click on the compatibility tab, and check the box "run this program as administrator" (which is what I think you were referring to in your earlier post).

Make sure you do not have that checkbox enabled.

Besides the shortcut, I also tested it from the command line.
