GtkWarning: Failed to install clipboard viewer

Forums:

Just installed BB 2.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and each time I use it, I get the following error message:
C:\Program Files (x86)\BleachBit\library.zip\bleachbit\GUI.py:875: GtkWarning: Failed to install clipboard viewer

BleachBit version:
22.0
Your operating system:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Thank you for the bug report. I have never seen that error, but I would like to try to fix it.

#1 Does this happen after you reboot Windows? Maybe another application has malfunctioned and locked the clipboard.

#2 Did you have this with previous versions of BleachBit?

#3 When BleachBit starts, Windows gives you a popup called the UAC (user access control) asking whether you want to allow the application to make changes. BleachBit will run either way, though with fewer or more permissions. Does the clipboard error happen with both options?

#4 Which antivirus/security software do you use?

Hi Andrew,

For reasons unrelated to Bleachbit, I will have no choice but reinstall the Windows 32bit version, so I don't want you waste time on it. Nevertheless, I answered all your questions below.

#1 Does this happen after you reboot Windows? Maybe another application has malfunctioned and locked the clipboard.

Reply #1. It happened at all time, I tried under different conditions. I have no errors in the Event Viewer, because I fixed them all and I didn't install or use a clipboard viewer. Unfortunately, I forgot to test it in safe mode. :-(

#2 Did you have this with previous versions of BleachBit?

Reply #2. This is a freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I used all earlier versions of the 32 bit when I had used Windows 7 32bit. Now I was planning/trying to move to 64bit.

#3 When BleachBit starts, Windows gives you a popup called the UAC (user access control) asking whether you want to allow the application to make changes. BleachBit will run either way, though with fewer or more permissions. Does the clipboard error happen with both options?

Reply #3. UAC is complete turned off. So, I can't tell about the UAC messages.

#4 Which antivirus/security software do you use?

Windows 10 Pro 64bit, and Linux Mint 19.1 64bit

Would you try temporarily disabling Avast Free? I read that it goes like this
1. Find Avast in the system tray
2. Click on Shield Controls
3. Click on Disable for 10 minutes

Hi Andrew,

Since I reported the bug originally, I had to reinstall the 32bit Windows (and Linux Mint) where BB 2.0 works faultlessly. I kept a mirror backup of the 64bit installation but plan to reinstall soon. I must resolve a single software issue that kept me from using it. The two setups are identically configured, including the softwares.
I will return to report the results.
