How do I save usernames and passwords before I run

Forums:

I unchecked the username/password box for chrome and explorer prior to running the first time nd no issues. Now I cant get it to stop deleting them? What am I doing wrong? I use Chrome 100% of the time.

Your operating system:
Windows 11

Under Google Chrome, you unchecked the Passwords option, but your passwords are being deleted when running BleachBit, so when you log into a website, it doesn't remember your password. You save your password, and it stays saved under running BleachBit again. Then, the password is deleted. Is this what you're experiencing?

Correct.

If you have enabled in the preferences Winapp2.ini, then this may help. Look for a category called Google Chrome. Under that, are the options Chromium Cookies or Login Data Extras enabled? If so, disable those options.

UUUuuuhhhhhhhh................. Is Winapp2.ini a file on the Bleach Bit program list or is it a file stored on my PC? Im running a search for it now on my PC.

Thanks Andrew

You may not need to search for the file. If it does exist, it would be under %appdata%\bleachbit\cleaners\ where %appdata% , like c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\bleachbit\cleaners .

The Winapp2.ini file would have been downloaded if you ever selected that option in the BleachBit preferences. There's a screenshot and more info in the Winapp2.ini documentation.

Major takeaway for you is this:

  1. Look in the tree view, which is on the left side of the main screen.
  2. Find a cleaner category called Google Chrome. There may be two Google Chrome categories, so check both.
  3. Under Google Chrome, disable the two options: Chromium Cookies and Login Data Extras.

When you run a preview, you should no longer see the file Login Data.

In an upcoming update, the relevant cleaner category (from Winapp2.ini) will be renamed to Google Chrome Saved Usernames & Passwords.

I think Im going to uninstall and reinstall. That bleachBit folder is read only and wont open. I wish I could post a screenshot so you can see what Im up against. Any reason why I should reinstall?

You mean the BleachBit installation folder (under c:\program files (x86)\) is read only or the configuration folder (under c:\users\) is read only?

What happens when you try to open the application?

Tip: when starting BleachBit, WIndows asks "do you want to allow this app to make changes": you can answer no.
