Error Message

Forums:

Excuse me if this question is answered elsewhere in the forum, and kindly point me to its discussion. I run BleachBit 1.12 portable version on standalone 64-bit Windows 10, which has MS latest and greatest security updates fully applied. When I run BB with every checkbox selected, except wiping free space, it appears to complete all the tasks successfully. However, in the output I also get the following error message:

Run external command: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe 0
Error in execution of

My question here is, how can I determine what that error is and how to fix it? Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. This is a strange error that doesn't give much detail. It could be a permission error. Where do you have the portable folder placed? Can you try somewhere on the desktop or a place that doesn't require elevated permissions? Also, have you tried running BleachBit with Admin permissions?

Does this happen with version 1.19 beta at all: https://www.bleachbit.org/news/bleachbit-119-beta

Windows 10 x64 (switching to ReactOS in the future).

Here is the entire error message in Bleachbit, which I see when running it as administrator:

Error in execution of

You mentioned something about permissions. That is possible, it seems to me, since my settings for the OS have "Protected Folders". Even so, as far as I can see, Bleachbit appears to have no problem deleting files within any of the Protected Folders, for example, the RecycleBin on the desktop, or specifically any other Protected folder or file on the Desktop being deleted manually. Does that make sense?

For some reason, the entire error message does not post successfully, even though it appears correctly while I am creating the message by pasting in with the Windows Clipboard.. Here again is the message, which I have to type in manually instead of Pasting in:

Error in execution of

Well, damn, I cannot even make it type the error message. I suppose because the missing part of the message is enclosed in brackets?

This might sound weird, but does this issue happen in BleachBit 1.10? In 1.12, there was a feature added that resets explorer.exe after deleting thumbnails cache. This error could mean that BleachBit is trying to reset explorer.exe and that your system is denying it from happening.

If nothing else, you could take a screenshot of the error and post it here: https://snag.gy/ Then link the screenshot here.

In this system, I have Bleachbit Portable version 1.12 installed on both the Hyper-V host running Windows Server 2012 R2 (64-bit) OS and on the VM running Windows 10 Profession (64-bit). I get the error message only on the Windows 10 VM, not on the Windows Server. It is worth noting that I do in fact have the Bleachbit program in the whitelist of programs allowed to access Protected Folders in the Windows 10 OS.

Apparently, this error message cannot be posted here exactly as it appears in the log, probably because it contains two special symbols. I shall attempt to convey what it says in the following manner.

Error in execution of (Less Than symbol)bleachbit.Command.Function instance at 0x0545B710(Greater Than symbol)

The way Explorer.exe restarts when cleaning Windows Thumbnails changed between BleachBit version 1.12 to 1.19. I suggest trying the newer version or disabling the Windows Thumbnails option

Hi, and thanks for the follow up on this. I did try disabling the Windows Explorer Thumbnails option before running it, but the same error message appears. Seems as though it may be something else. Is there a more detailed log generated which may show additional clues? Thanks.

Start BleachBit Debug Terminal

BleachBit Debug Terminal

In case there is an option with a similar name from Winapp2.ini, make sure this one is disabled

Disable Thumbnails
