Would you like to test the new web site?

I am starting to migrate this web site to a new web host (not SourceForge). If you would like to test the new site before it launches, either email me privately or reply to this thread. Then I will privately email you the URL.

On the new site you can create fake users for testing, create fake forum posts, etc.

In the short term there will not be major changes, so the focus is the basic functionality works--for example, users can download the app and register for the forum.

The new site will support both HTTP and HTTPS connections. Later I am thinking to replace the CAPTCHA system with Google's reCAPTCHA. Later I may install a WYSIWYG HTML editor like CKEditor to make it easier to format posts in the forum.

I would like to test the new website. Email me at slinger1410(at)yahoo(dot)com

I enabled HTTPS, and you must use HTTPS to login and post on the forum. If you use HTTP, it considers you not to be logged in, so you may see "access denied" errors when using HTTP.

I enabled IPv6.

I replaced the old CAPTHCA with Google's reCACPTHA.

I also started performance tuning to make it faster, and I will do more of this later.

Email notifications (like for new forum posts) come from the new domain instead of from my personal email.

Since there's not a lot of testers, why not just link it here for public testing and just mark it under construction or something?

Also, make sure you are using TSL and not SSL, due to SSL no longer being safe.

I'd like to keep close track of what is going on the site

Yes, that is good advice about SSL. The BleachBit new site does not allow SSL. It currently supports TLS 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2. This and other related settings, like forward secrecy, gives it an A rating at ssllabs.com.

In my personal web browser I tried disabling TLS 1.0 and 1.1, but I quickly noticed one web site I often visit does not support TLS 1.2.

Ya, I would think most websites support TSL 1.2 these days. TSL 1.3 is not too long away and will be big changes to it when it arrives.

While we're on the topic, good job on trying to avoid SourceForge. The site is always down either partially or entirely since SF was bought out by some large corporate blob. Just the other day it prevented me from installing Bleachbit for several hours. While we're on the topic, also make it use HTTP2, not some old SPDY version. And don't use SSL3, that is obsolete and insecure. Use the latest TLS. Also focus on general stability and uptime once you've made sure the site is fresh technology wise. I hope this means I'll be able to download BleachBit without having to wait hours on end for SF to get back up and running. I suggest also taking the downloads with you.

Oh and I forgot - count me in on the testing as well. Make sure you take the actual files with as well. I can't wait to actually be able to download BleachBit on a new install without having to wait hours on end like just the other day when SF crapped out.

@MikeRL: The new website has been up since the Feb 8th. Please read here: https://www.bleachbit.org/news/new-domain-upgraded-servers

In fact, you are probably on the new domain when you posted this. Check your URL to see if bleachbit.sourceforge is still there.

MikeRL: You mentioned an outage preventing you from installing BleachBit for several hours--was that on the old BleachBit web site at SourceForge?

The new BleachBit site enables both HTTP/2, SPDY, TLS 1.0, and TLS 1.2. SSL is totally disabled, and feel free to test the protocols yourself using www.ssllabs.com

It has been years since BleachBit's primary download mirror was on SourceForge. Since last month the primary download mirror is on the new, fast network.
