About my accident

Forums:

Well I figured I would tell about my recent accident to my old friend at BleachBit. On December 8th, I got into a really bad accident. I am a farmer and we were harvesting the rest of our crops off our fields. The combine header got piled up with corn and I had to jump out and clean it off. I was already extremely tired because I have had to do that so many times that day. Well, we got to the end and I got off to clean the rest of the corn off the header. As I was cleaning it, my dad accidently started the header and it sucked my foot up into it. I had to go to the hospital and ended up getting my right leg amputated. In someway, the combine also saved my life at the same time. The fingers that feed the corn to the header got in lodged into my leg and it cut the blood flow off, otherwise I would have bleed to death.

In conclusion, I do have a fundraiser/campaign going on to help me through my recovery. Here you can keep up with my progress, share with your friends, and donate money, only if you want to.

Here is the link: https://www.gofundme.com/mqesx82s

Please spread a word and donate some money my way. Any amount will help, but you only need to donate if you really want to.

Thank you for sharing more information about your accident. I also read about it on WISN 12 News. I made the gofundme.com link clickable, so it's easier for people to visit. I also added a link to the news section on the right sidebar.

Wow, Thanks for letting us know. I hope you have a speedy healing process.

I feel so sorried for that and hope you get better soon. I send you a big hug from Bogotá, Colombia. Keep strong bro. :)

Thanks guys. I am slowly getting better each day. Sadly, in a few weeks I have to go back to get my leg shorten, then a few months after that I will get my prosthetic leg. Really appreciate all of your kind words, it will help me just a little more to recover.

I come from the northern part of The Netherlands which is pretty much a countryside with lots of farmland. Each year there are so many accidents among farmers, from small accidents to major accidents. Even deadly accidents happend in the past.

Some, not all accidents could have been avoided, i think your accident could have been avoided also. But due to some unfortunate human factors it happened.

I wish you all the best and keep up the good spirit!

$10 has been dropped into the hat. I haven't read much, but I'm assuming you live in the US. Anything related to medicine and surgery is going to be expensive. I don't have much money myself, and have had a lot of fun dealing with Medicare not wanting to pay for sicknesses, but I do wish you the best.

How much has this whole mess cost you? If you got extra, you would refund people, right? I assume this is only for medical expenses, and I don't mean to insult, but crowdfunding has been abused by people before. Nothing personal, but I'm a bit paranoid these days. I do believe you are not a conman, though, since you are working on a volunteer project and other developers are spreading your word.

Holy crud I didn't see the news links! I need to read more next time. Just be glad you don't live in the USA, because if you were uninsured, you'd be screwed.

Hello Mike,

According to the news article, Alex lives on a farm in Wisconsin, USA.

Andrew is correct MikeRL. I live in Wisconsin, USA. I do have insurance, but I had to get a secondary to cover the rest as my primary only covered 80%. I am not sure how much this is all going to cost as I have not gotten my prosthetic leg, yet. I have another month or 2 to go before I get that.

Any extra I am either planning on 1. Using for my open-source community or 2. donating to open-source software, such as BleachBit, ClamWin, Windows Firewall Notifier, and other software. Open-source is my passion and I want to help as much as I can. I promise all my money will go to good use. And if you don't believe me about my leg, you can always come visit me and I will show you all the proof I can.

Hello Alex

Sorry for the rude expression, but I looked at the required money and said to myself "ow shit, you could buy two big homes here with that!".

People from outside USA think about it as a rich country where there are a lot more resources, but that's not so true. I don't want to contaminate this with political crap, just a social critic and show your support.

It's a shame a so big and resourced country wastes so much money on unneeded or even damaging crap just to make a few ones the richest in the world, but it can't help their citizens in have a better life. Even worse, people could have a really disgusting and traumatic accident and need to pay for all the expenses! What about solidarity and support to others? While I'm not Christian, I agree with a few of their ethical/moral reasoning and your country is flagged as Christian, so I see a cognitive dissonance here.

# I know you must be overhelmed but: Have to considered to relocate? How you do see your future?

I just hope the best for you. If I had some problem, I would love to receive support and make me aware of what I need to do. I have a disability (ADHD, I'll explain it later) with a few very have to get use of superpowers, but awareness about what to improve is a real issue to me.

I know you have a hard time these days and need to be emotionally supported. I know from others painkiller medication for this kind of issues would probably make you to be on a trip most of the time, this can be quite disgusting but the pain and trauma can drive you crazy.

You probably have a nice life there in USA and near of good people. But I'm sure you are smart and aware this would mean you can't continue your life as a farmer...

Have you considered to relocate to Europe or another place with better social services? I know this is too hard for you at this moment and need recovery, but you can get better social services and be more economically sustainable at other places if you receive some government subsidies. Because you are technically skilled and your disability, you could get easily contracted too.

#About myself

I don't have so much money, I have ADHD. I don't care to have been tagged over Internet, it's okay. These days Big Brother watches us, no problem others know about my disabiliy and not shamed of it anymore (I was in the past).

I'm waiting to get a disability degree, my organizational issues make every bureaucracy a challenge.

I'm an unemployed thirties electronics mature student at a vocational school, I always have been liked technology and specially both computing and electronics. I preferred to go to university, but it was impossible to me and too expensive.

I'm a bit better than in the past, feeling retarded and underwhelmed most of the time. These days I'm still dealing with having a proper life and working at improved different issues. The worst issues related to ADHD are about organizational and social aspects of my life.

I know it's not the same because it's not a physical disability, but I empathy with others suffering issues that makes their life harder than the rest.

I got crazy and bough a good laptop (having a 15yo desktop computer was very annoying to me) and some tech equipment with my scholarship received two months ago, so I have little money these days. But I'll save some bucks and send it to you. BleachBit is a great software that must exist for all platforms, it made my life easier with computers too.

Kind regards.
Jose from Spain (Timofonic)

Though I am generally skeptical, after knowing Alex for years, watching the video hosted on the local WISN 12 news channel's web site, and reading encouraging notes from people who know him in real life, I have no doubts about the authenticity of this accident. Rather than giving advice, the best thing we can do for Alex is offer support.

Thank you Andrew. Earlier today, I gave a special thanks to the BleachBit community for their comments and contributions on my GoFundMe account. Hope you liked it.

Just an update, yesterday I had my last surgery. In a few weeks to a month (or maybe longer I don't know for sure) I can finally get a leg for me, as soon as my wounds heal and the pain is really low. Thank you everyone for your support through my recovery I really appreciate it.
