Bleachbit 1.8 suddenly no longer loads. Crashes when opening every time

Forums:

Hello all,

Been using Bleachbit for quite some time now and so I am not new and I also have many years working in the general IT field.

Bleachbit was working fine for me up until today and now I get a pop-up that says that errors occurred and to check the log file located in the program files directory.

I located the log as listed and it contains this data:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "bleachbit.py", line 47, in
File "bleachbit\GUI.pyo", line 40, in
File "bleachbit\Cleaner.pyo", line 37, in

File "bleachbit\Options.pyo", line 233, in set

File "bleachbit\Options.pyo", line 98, in __purge
File "ntpath.pyo", line 255, in exists
TypeError: stat() argument 1 must be (encoded string without NULL bytes), not str

I have not made any changes to my machine or Bleachbit installation. This issue just started.

I have attempted to completely uninstall Bleachbit and reinstall and receive the same results.

Really confused and frustrated right now.
I hope that someone can shed some light and help on this.

Thank you.

Thank you for the report. I have never seen that error before.

Look for a file called %APPDATA%\BleachBIt\BleachBit.ini. Does renaming this file resolve the symptoms?

If it does help, I would appreciate getting a copy of this file. You can either attach it to a bug ticket at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bleachbit/ or email it to me at ahz001 at gmail dot com

Hi Andrew, thank you for reviewing and responding to my post.

After I submitted my post here, I actually did a system rollback using the rollback feature in Win 8.1 and was able to use Bleachbit again without issue. I am not exactly sure what transpired to make the whole application fail to load anymore but should anything like that happen again, I will try the method you listed above and return here to advise.

Thank you again!
