BleachBit and winapp2

Forums:

A few days ago, winapp2 updated to new version. File size is now 457kb, but BleachBit is still using the old 436kb. It has been like this for a while now. BleachBit doesn't need to have much revisions on it except for maybe re adding the entries that were removed because they are now in CCleaner instead of winapp2 and as a result should make BleachBit slightly higher then the one CCleaner uses. Someone said that it is automatically downloaded from winapp2 to BleachBit without alterations. Not to sure what he meant by alterations, though, if someone will be willing to explain that? I am downloading winapp2 manually and updating it myself instead, but I just don't see why BleachBit isn't doing that itself?

An alteration means any kind of change. A long time ago BleachBit didn't support all the entries, so I did remove them. Nowadays it would be nice to alter winapp2.ini to restore the removed entries (removed because of CCleaner).

Yes, it would be nice if someone added those removed entires back, but I don't have the time. I emailed the winapp2.ini maintainer Rob Ward to check what he thinks.

BleachBit does update it automatically, but there is a delay to allow time to check it. If someone wants to check the latest file and verify there are no errors (like shown in the console when running bleachbit_console.exe), then it would help get it posted faster.

What if I helped you out with that? It all seems simple, but I am no expert with winnapp2. I can re-add lost entries to winapp2 and do verification, but someone would need to supply me all the winapp2 files dated to the latest BleachBit version.

Thanks.

I will send you a good email I received from Robert Ward with what I think is the necessary information. If this doesn't have it, I do have 18 versions of winapp2.ini going back to June 2011.

Have you ever used GitHub, SVN, or diff tools?

Hello andrew. I have finished the new winapp2 and replaced lost entries due to CCleaner. I can send you the finished copy of winapp2 at anytime, unless there was something else you wanted me to do with it? In the future, I will continue the work for winapp2 and resend the updated winapp2 and replace the lost entries for each upcoming version for you.

Just a reminder, I sent the new winapp2 a few weeks ago via email and I never got an email back or anything. I still have the saved copy with me if you need me to send a new one.

Thank you. I got it, and I appreciate it. However, I need to work on releasing BleachBit 1.0 final. Then I need to think about some issues related to winapp2.ini, which is on my short list after 1.0

Just curious on what's going on now. Its been a month since 1.0 has been release and 2 months of me sending 3 new winapp2 files to you and yet to see any update progress. Am I sending the winapp2 files to the right email? Should I stop with the winapp2 updates?

I appreciate your work and initiative on the winapp2.ini updates.

I first have to attend to a few other issues, and then I would like to carefully look at this situation. I need to understand how Rob is removing entries, how you are adding them back, etc., and perhaps there is a more efficient, maintainable, safe way to carry this forward. I have an email from Rob about this, but I haven't had time yet to read it.

The change log of winapp2 states why they are being removed again, at least the last update did. I re add the removed entries manually by keeping a separate list of removed entries dating back to the last BleachBit update on winapp2 and re add them to new updates of winapp2 for each version including new removed ones, as well.
