BleachBit 0.9.5beta2
BleachBit, the open source system cleaner, announces the public 0.9.5 beta 2 which includes enhancements, bug fixes, and translation updates. Please help test.
These particular areas are a priority for testing:
- Clean Google Chrome history, cookies, and passwords.
- Clean Thunderbird index files.
- Specific to Linux
- Run in a headless mode (such as over ssh)
- Run the memory cleaner (System - Memory)
- Specific to Windows
- The desktop icon should have transparency.
- In Preferences, enable updates of winapp2.ini, and restart BleachBit. This should download the latest version (newer than what BleachBit 0.9.4 gets). Restart again for the update to take effect. The winapp2 cleaners shown should have some relation to software installed on the system.
- When Windows is set to non-English regionalization, use the BleachBit command line to clean options from winapp2.
- From the console run
bleachbit_console.exe --update-winapp2
To look for regressions follow the standard tests on the Testing page.
Bugs
Two bugs in BleachBit 0.9.5 beta that should be fixed in 0.9.5 beta 2:
- Deep scan freezes when it finds a file to delete. Fixed for next release.
- Passwords are deleted in Google Chrome and Chromium under the History option. Fixed for next release.
Remember: beta releases are more likely to contain bugs and are recommended only for testing. Use with caution. Report any bugs to the bug tracker or forum.
