How to prevent BleachBit from resetting file associations?

When I run Bleachbit 5.02. it resets file associations for files such as Videos, JPG's etc.
I am running Windows 11 64 Pro.

Is there any way to prevent this?

I have read that you can untick [Microsoft Windows] - Windows Shell, but if I do that it will not delete files from that.

Is there anyway around this?

Here is one option

  1. In BleachBit preferences, disable automatic updates for Winapp2.
  2. Open folder %appdata%\bleachbit\Cleaners\
  3. Optional: Get the new upstream version . It currently has many changes not included through BleachBit's automatic updates. Add it to this folder.
  4. Edit winapp2.ini
  5. Find the line with: HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
  6. Delete it and save the file.

I did No 1 and No 2.

Option 5 the line HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExt

Is not in the .ini file.
